ABOUT

Vasilisa GG (Ganakova), 18

18 year old girl from Russia, studying photography in Paris.

I was born in a small town in Siberia which I only remember thanks to videos my dad made when I was an infant. All my conscious childhood was spent in Perm, a city in Russia located near the Ural Mountains (center of the country), with a lot of traveling to Europe. Visiting other countries opened my mind to new cultures and "worlds". One of my dreams became to be a "global citizen", living a sort of international culture. This is way it was understood a long long time ago that I would move abroad after school.

During my first school years I was thinking about becoming a journalist, an interior or fashion designer (sometimes a singer and an astronaut, too ;D). When I was 10, one day in summer I just had nothing to do in my family's country house and my dad gave me his camera. I went shooting everything I see and it seemed a lot of fun. 3 years later I got a reflex camera as a present and started thinking wether I wanted to become a photographer. I was always too unconfident about my photography skills and still was thinking of trying fashion design (i had a lot of dress sketches in my notebook) or even film directing/screenwriting (I had always been in love with movies and wrote books when I was smaller) and drawing (loads of comic sketches and stories in my room). But in the end, I decided photography is the thing I'm closer to. Still now as I've chosen photography, I never leave my other interests and wish to connect my work to different domains of art. At this very moment I am mostly inspired by fashion industry. I also enjoy music and architecture, as well as cinematography, which I have already mentioned.

From 2012 I am a photo student of Ecole de Condé in Paris. I have started doing internships and working this year. Right now I plan to work mostly in fashion, doing however some art photography: abstracts, architecture and portraits. For fashion work I also want to learn styling and make-up, and I am starting a blog on fashion photography.
